Recently, Trump also announces the temporary suspension of US visas. These visas are issued annually to the migrant workers. Every year, the US allocates 85000 visas for foreign skilled workers.
This year with the temporary suspension, Trump’s administration also says that this is indirectly a threat to local job opportunities. Meanwhile, Canada is taking this opportunity to welcome people across the world.
Since 2013, the number of jobs in Toronto is increased by 54%. Several Canadian companies are utilizing this opportunity very well. According to a study in 2016, 25% of the total workers in Canada are immigrant workers.
Recently, US President Donald Trump decided to suspend all the new H1B visas and other work permits. Now the engineers look at Canada after the US suspends the visas. Canada has a more open policy for immigration.
Canada’s staffing firms observed a huge surge in inquiries over the past few weeks. One of the CEO’s of a staffing firm says that the increase in the number of visits to the website and email queries are reportedly high over the past few weeks.
He also says that several companies are also inquiring about their own employees whose situation might be in trouble with the suspensions. Shortly after the US visa suspension is announced, the Immigration Minister of Canada responded to it.
He says that Canada believes that immigration will help them recover better and quickly. He also adds that Canada has a plan to attract the best and brightest talent around the world. Canada also has express entry program and Global Talent Stream to help innovators, engineers, and entrepreneurs.
Canada is also very vocal about encouraging immigration. Earlier to COVID, Canada said that it would like to welcome around 1,00,000 people to become permanent residents of the country between 2020 and 2022. So, now engineers look at Canada after the US suspends visas
Out of the 74,000 permanent residents who came to Canada this year, 24% are Indians. In 2016, 39,705 Indians went to Canada as permanent residents. This number increased to 85,585 in 2019.
During this pandemic of COVID-19, Amazon is planning to deliver critical supplies to the people who are in need of them, directly to their doorstep. As the demand increases day by day, the need for more labor is also essential. To handle this, Amazon is planning to hire 1,00,000 candidates in the US to its fulfillment centers and delivery network.
Amazon is welcoming the people who are economically hit during this crisis and lost their jobs like restaurant waiters, travel guides, etc to participate in this job hiring. Amazon wants these people to work for them until their original employer hires them back.
Also, along with these 1,00,000 people, Amazon wants to recognize its staff who actively participate during this crisis. In the US, Amazon is planning to increase the pay by USD 2$ per hour from the exisitng rate of 15$ per hour. Based on the region, the pay hike will be enabled. For Canada, it is 2C$, £2 per hour in the UK, and around €2 per hour in most of the European nations. To enable this until April, Amazon is investing around $350 million to handle this extra compensation.
Amazon is making sure health and safety is an important criterion for all its employees. It is planning to consult medical and health experts to maintain safety. It is taking recommended measures inside its buildings, warehouses, and stores. Also, social distancing is being practiced in its workplaces.
Recently, HackerRank issued a report based on the survey conducted among 11648 developers and students across the globe. The report states that the average salary of an Indian Developer is $38,229. While the average salary of a US developer is $109,167. Cities such as San Francisco and Seattle have developers with more average salary than the rest of the cities in the USA.
Surprisingly, the average salary of a developer from Pakistan is $39,154. This is borderline high compared to the developer’s salary in India. The survey also states that the global average salary is $54,491. Developers from countries like the USA, Australia, Canada, and the Netherlands earn more than the developers who belong to Asian Countries like India, Pakistan, Thailand, etc.

A little bit of microanalysis on the salaries data of Indian developers will give encouraging results. According to the HackerRank report, the average salary of an Indian developer is $38,229. When converted this to the local currency INR, it is around Rs.27 lakh. This is a respectful salary for any software engineer in the country. Also, the developers who participated in the HackerRank survey are experienced developers and a few veterans.
According to this report, for every developer who is receiving a high salary, there is always a developer who feels he is underpaid. This report states that 39% of the developers across the globe feel they are underpaid, 35% feel they are paid enough and 26% are not sure about anything.
